Silly Sorority Girls
Having gone back to school as an adult, early in the semester I felt like SDSU has changed so incredibly much from when I attended in the late 90's. As the weeks progressed I realized that I was definitely the one who had changed. The young students were still completely the same. First day of school all the young girls wake up early, flat iron and poof their hair and proceed to wear their new Fall Fashions (afterall the fall fashion line comes out in August). Now I have nothing against jeans, sweaters and boots.... I'd actually prefer to live in fall clothing. It's my absolute favorite time of year, all 3 weeks of it. However... this is San Diego and it's 100 degrees well into October, so watching all these young silly girls in their full-on fall outfits makes me laugh. The down to earth people are wearing tank tops, shorts and Reefs. Meanwhile, Brittany and Ashley are covered head to toe in their newly acquired designer threads, Greek sorority bag over their shoulder and matching Chanel sunglasses. How do they afford this look? Ridiculous look for 100 degrees, but cute if transformed to the east coast. Then it dawned on me. Good old credit cards. My first time around in college I was bombarded with credit card offers. So much so that I racked up a good $8,000 in one year, always assuming I'd be able to pay it off in a few months. Wanting to have that image, trendy, stylish clothing and accessories; eating out at nice restaurants--- which screams out in irony since we weren't even old enough to order a nice glass of wine. Oh the knowledge that comes with age.... wishing I could do it all over again. Perhaps I would have graduated all those years ago..... (to be continued)
